The reaction to The First Australian series shown on SBS last year has been huge. According to Mark Rubbo at ‘Readings’ in Carlton the DVD was a best seller over Christmas. First Australians was followed up by the publication of the rewritten Little Red, Yellow Black Book. AIATSIS asked Bruce to rewrite this book which was first published some years ago. So much has happened in contemporary Aboriginal Australian History that the original book was dated. The rewrite has been enthusiastically received. It is a great place to start if you would like an introduction to Aboriginal Australia.
If you would like to hear Bruce speak over the coming months check this list of proposed engagements, August 2nd at at the Reality Bites program Cooroy on the Sunshine Coast, August the 26th at the Melbourne Writers Festival and 4-6th September at the Ex-Libris Port Fairy Book Fair.
Bruce’s next book, Bloke, is published by Penguin and is due for release in August. Readings in Carlton will host an event on the 5th August at 6.30pm where Bruce will read from Bloke and answer questions. This is a free event but please book on 93476633. A book of fiction, Bloke tells the story of Jim Bloke. Bloke has had a challenging life, adopted, not too successful with women and he’s done time, but he makes a fair fist of things on the half back flank and is creative in the kitchen. Bloke is compassionate, and funny.
